Commercial Cultivation of Australian Wild Oryza spp.: A Review and Conceptual Framework for Future Research Needs

Wild Oryza species are being targeted for commercial cultivation due to their high nutritional grain profile, and association with Aboriginal people in many regions. Australian wild have potential as high-value, low-volume, culturally identified, nutritious food, especially gourmet tourism, restaurants, value-added products. However, the basic agronomic protocols a field crop unknown. In this review, we identify major factors supporting production of Oryza, including stress-tolerant capacity, excellent quality attributes, Indigenous cultural identification grains. The key challenges be faced during development rice industry also discussed which include management barriers, processing issues, undesirable traits, environmental concern.
